Connecting Families: The First Commercial Flight to Cuba Since 1961

In August 2016, JetBlue made history with the first commercial flight from the United States to Cuba in more than 50 years. On this inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale, two crewmembers traveled to reunite with family in Havana – the simplest route back they’ve ever taken.

By November, JetBlue’s fourth Cuba inaugural flight, Flight 243, was making its own mark as the first Havana-bound commercial flight from the New York metro area, also in more than 50 years. After Florida, New York is home to the second-largest Cuban-American population in the United States. JetBlue has deployed more than 350 flights to Cuba, connecting thousands of customers with people and places that are important to them. We’re stocking up on tissues, ready for more reunions in 2017.

“Opening the doors of cultural and economic opportunity is a key benefit of air travel. JetBlue’s direct service to Cuba from Orlando provides our passengers and community with a unique opportunity to build lasting bonds between our two cultures.”
